Testimonials for website 1

The first round of Fortem’s Job Preparation Workshops for first responders transitioning out of service was so successful that we’re coming back with more.

Fortem Transition Engagement Officer Anthony Ferro says the workshops form part of the overall Transition & Employment Program. “We support first responders who are leaving service as they transition to the next chapter of their lives. We have a strong focus on employment in our Transition & Employment Program, and we also support a holistic approach: based on the first responder’s unique circumstances, other pathways and services may be the best option for individuals.”

The workshop series provides a set of practical ideas to help you make the transition to your next role. “Part of our work is to facilitate these Job Preparation Workshops, in order to give you some great tips, tools and support in preparing your next job application,” Anthony adds.

The three-part online Job Preparation Workshop series cover the skills that you will need to take on the recruitment process:

WORKSHOP 1: THE RESUME

  • How to write and format your resume
  • Putting your qualifications, transferable skills and competencies into a resume
  • The job sites to watch to find your next opportunity

WORKSHOP 2: THE COMMUNICATION

  • How to get noticed with a great cover letter
  • Tips and tricks for responding to selection criteria
  • Communication during the job search

WORKSHOP 3: THE INTERVIEW

  • Interview skills
  • Preparing for a job interview
  • How and when to negotiate your salary package
  • Creating your personal brand
