The temperatures were soaring as first responder families arrived at the martial arts centre for their first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lesson. With plans to continue the family-time theme for the day with a trip to the beach to cool down afterwards, they got stuck into learning this incredible new skill.
From a child-friendly warm up that saw the kids racing each other to see who could complete the exercises first, the participants were then split into family groups.
The room was full of laughter and friendly competition from kids and parents alike. Every time the group would break up they had to yell “one, two” and then clap, and every clap had the kids roaring with laughter.
With non-stop laughter and continuous smiles from young and old,, the event was wrapped up with coffee for the grown-ups, babyccino for the kids and a cake to share.
What a great way to connect families with a new skill, some active time together, and with some fun away from their day-to-day lives.
Everyone is looking forward to the next class, with some families signing up for more Jiu Jitsu classes outside of Fortem’s sessions.
