Join the fun, and boost your mental fitness, in a variety of wellbeing activities

Following the NSW lockdown, the Illawarra/Shoalhaven arm of Fortem is now back to in-person activities – and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Our monthly activities started back with our Walk Snap Explore visit to Killalea State Park. Participants met at the top of Reflections Killalea Reserve to begin our walk along the grass/dirt track around the lagoon. Just before we hit the entry to the beach, we took off our shoes, and it was so nice to feel the sand beneath our feet, walk the length of the beach and see the surfers in the water. From the beach we climbed the many steps to the top of Killalea, where we took some pictures of the stunning views. The walk took about 50 – 60 minutes.

Our next walk is planned for 23 November – REGISTER HERE

The Little Adventurer’s ‘Let’s Explore Paint’ was held in the beautiful coastal village of Shellharbour. We created butterflies and insects, that came alive when we placed goggle eyes on them, painted pet rocks and explored different painting techniques on canvas and paper.

Our next family adventure is a Teddy Bear’s Picnic, and in December we’re exploring Christmas crafts – REGISTER HERE

We had a first paddle for the season with Bec at Shellharbour SUP, who guided us through different paddling techniques, how to kneel and stand on the boards and where to place our feet. The water was so clear, with only a few ripples. When we got to the other side of the lake, we decided to go for a swim as the water looked very inviting, and we were starting to get quite warm from paddling against the current. What a magical morning!

Our next casual monthly catch-up will be on Wednesday 1 December 2021 – REGISTER HERE

The summer Oztag season also started, with our inter-agency team playing their first game. We absolutely loved the friendly on-field banter from both teams – it’s a good laugh! Our players are at all levels and ages, which means we learn from each other. We have players that continued on from the winter season, and players who have just joined the team.

Fortem’s wellbeing activities are designed to boost the mental fitness of first responders and their families. Explore all the activities here.
