Kayaking on a peaceful river with the sun shining down and the sound of laughter or conversation drifting around you. Recently Fortem held a wellbeing activity for first responder families from the Bega Valley region, with Kiah Wilderness Tours. Our participants got to try something new as well as be active and connect with other local first responder families. You can also read about another families Kiah Kayaking wellbeing activity experience here.
A beautiful sunny morning with colourful, chirpy lorikeets greeting us all as we gathered on Jenny and Arthur’s front deck to pop on our lifejackets and get the run down on safety on the water.
Once on the water, participants cruised up the peaceful Towamba River, enjoying the sunshine and calm conditions.
As with previous tours, participants noticed the bush around them regenerating, which prompted reflection on the fires, and how 2020 has affected us as individuals and as a community.
With people cruising along at different speeds, the people out in front had the opportunity to drift along with their feet up (literally!), taking in the serenity around them.
The river is rich in birdlife, and today we spotted an eagle, perched high up in the tree looking down at us.
The group enjoyed morning tea by the river. We chatted about being outdoors, favourite local spots to camp and adventures we had been on.
