|Recurring Activity (See all)

An event every week that begins at 12:00 pm on Monday, repeating until 15/11/2021

Free

It’s a great time to do strength training with a resistance band, which you can do anytime and from anywhere, even from the comfort of your own loungeroom or bedroom. Join Fortem’s 8 week resistance band exercise program online to learn how to exercise using resistance bands. The 30 minute sessions will focus on building strength, coordination and fitness, and will be held by Fortem’s exercise physiologist.

This group fitness class will meet weekly for 8 weeks on Mondays starting on Monday 27th September & finishing on the 15th November. This is a progressive program, expectation is that participants to sign up for the full 8 week program, of course we understand that participants may miss a couple of sessions due to shift-work.

Participants need to have a resistance band to participate in the program. You can purchase them online from stores such as Target, Big W and Rebel Sport. This online class will be delivered by Teams meeting, so you will need a reliable internet connection and a device, such as your smartphone, tablet or laptop, capable of supporting Zoom video conferencing. Participants must have clearance from their doctor to be involved.

This is a great way to strengthen family/kinship group bonds, as well as to broaden your social network through connection with other first responder families. Connection is an important part of the path to mental fitness, and can take a protective role in maintaining wellbeing through increased feelings of happiness, security, belonging and self-worth. Being active helps to build resilience and wellbeing, and plays a major role in maintaining mental fitness. It helps us to cope with stress, gives us more energy and confidence, as well as improving mood and quality of sleep. Challenging our minds with new skills, approaches, and information can improve our knowledge and thinking skills, increasing confidence, sense of purpose, and ability to cope with stress.

This free wellbeing activity is for first responder families (check eligibility here). Register yourself, and up to three other adults and up to four children age 14+. This might be your partner, children, family members or someone from your inner circle. Encourage a first responder colleague to register too. You are also most welcome to come by yourself!
