First responder families, join us for a 6 week Yoga Basics course to learn attentional control and connection to body, with focus on breath and movement. In this super charged and fast paced time, it is becoming vital to nurture the health of your mind. Yoga does just that but with the bonus of getting strong, flexible, fit and well balanced all around.

It’s a great chance to learn useful mindfulness techniques to support your wellbeing and build your mental fitness, as well as improving your physical strength and agility. You can also spend time with your family or kinship group, developing close bonds as you learn. It’s a great opportunity to connect and socialise with other local first responder families – developing close relationships and socialising with friends, family and others, is important to build your mental fitness and boost your wellbeing. Being active helps to build resilience and wellbeing, and plays a major role in maintaining mental fitness. It helps us to cope with stress, gives us more energy and confidence, as well as improving mood and quality of sleep. Being in the present moment is a great way to gain perspective, increase resilience, and reduces stress. Presence of mind (‘mindfulness’) has a range of benefits in building mental fitness including greater self-awareness, increased adaptability, and better recognising how and when to seek help.
This free wellbeing activity is for first responder families (check eligibility here). This class is designed for teens and adults (minimum age 16) of all fitness levels. Fortem is currently monitoring COVID guidelines closely and may reschedule this event and notify participants accordingly. Restrictions apply in line with current COVID regulations.
