Canberra region first responder families, join us for a Come & Try session where you can try out a kayak and a stand up paddle board, learn about equipment, boat handling, entry and exit techniques, basic paddling techniques and basic capsize procedures. This session will run over 2 hours, followed by a late lunch.
This activity is a great way to connect with other local first responder families and develop closer relationships in your own family, plus you can get active and enjoy the Spring weather and fresh air. This Fortem activity can help maintain a healthy level of physical activity, which can assist with building wellness, resilience and ways of coping with stress. Adult learning has been correlated with positive effects on well-being, reports of life satisfaction, optimism and efficacy. This activity can also contribute to development of close family relationships. Good personal relationships are protective for wellbeing.
This activity is free for first responder families. Children must be 14 years and over. All boats, life jackets and paddles are provided as well as a late lunch for participants.
This activity is weather dependent. Participants will be contacted if lesson need to be rescheduled or change location due to the weather. Fortem is currently monitoring COVID guidelines closely and may reschedule this event and notify participants accordingly.
