Another great wellbeing activity for Shoalhaven region first responder families, when they came together to try Stand Up Paddleboarding on the the Currambeen Creek. An opportunity to develop family bonds and be active with family and friends, as well as connecting with other local first responder families who came out to enjoy a day amongst the mangroves. Let’s hear from Alison, our Fortem team member for the Shoalhaven region.
“Wow, what a spectacular morning to be paddling along Currambeen Creek just off Woollamia boat ramp. The day started at 9am with everyone meeting at George’s van for instructions and tips on how to use the paddle and board. Not long after we were out on the water, first starting on our knees and then on our feet.
As there were boats going by, we needed to watch out for the ripples in the water or you’d be having a swim!
As we were paddling along Currambene Creek, an extensive river system, we made a stop to explore the white sandy beaches of Culburra Beach and had a swim in the warm waters.
The weather was just gorgeous and for someone that doesn’t like to swim I actually went in the water! It was just beautiful.
When we got back from the paddle we all hang around a little bit longer for a chat and something to eat. Thank you so much George and Amy from S.U.P with George, for welcoming us onto your activity.
Everyone was so thankful for the experience and were so happy to connect with other emergency service members.”
