Fortem Australia and Volunteering Gold Coast – Keeping First Responders Connected to Community.

Envisioning inclusive, purposeful, and connected communities, Volunteering Gold Coast (VGC) are now a proud partner of Fortem Australia’s new Transition and Employment Program.

Fortem will be working one-on-one with first responders and their families to develop individualised plans for meaningful and connected transitions from their current roles. VGC will play an invaluable part for transitioning first responders seeking to include volunteering in their plan; connecting them to organisations and opportunities aligned with their individual skills and interests.

Anthony Ferro, Transition Engagement Officer for Fortem Australia, is particularly excited to be overseeing the partnership, “Heading up the Transition and Employment Program for Fortem here in Queensland is proving to be an incredible and hugely motivating experience,” he says.

“I see a real purpose and genuine outcomes for the first responders we are helping through the program.  There is no greater motivator for me than seeing those benefits. I was extremely proud to initiate and develop this relationship and hope to do so again with other similar organisations around Queensland.”

Fortem and VGC will work together with transitioning first responders and their selected volunteer Not-For-Profit (NFP) groups during onboarding and throughout the engagement to ensure that all involved get the most out of the relationship.

For Fortem, partnering with Volunteering Gold Coast opens an opportunity to engage with an established and well-known organisation that provides a conduit for people wanting to volunteer with over 100 NFP organisations on the Gold Coast, Tweed, and South East Queensland regions.

“People leaving service are hard-wired to contribute to their community and volunteering facilitates that,” says Mr Ferro.

The structured intake through VGC allows Fortem Transition Engagement Officers to fully support program participants in identifying the right organisation and time commitment for their needs, and to assist them through the NFP’s onboarding process.

It’s a win-win for program participants and the NFPs.

“After all, it’s an easy sell in introducing highly skilled, dedicated, and community focused former first responders to a local NFP,” he says.
