Gold Coast stunt day, adds daredevil thrills to mental fitness.

On a cloudy Gold Coast day (yes they happen!) first responder families were itching to get out of the house and connect, grateful not to be in lockdown like those in other states.

The group headed off to Stunt Park for a day of thrills and daredevil action. Following the warm up, the coaches and stunt professionals introduced themselves and the plan for the day.

One of our coaches was a stunt man for movies like  ‘Thor Ragnarok’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ – serious cred.

The obstacle course was our first challenge, with the group cheering and supporting each other through the course.

After all that excitement the team moved inside and went through tumbling exercises, as well as fake fist and sword fighting. Adults were made to feel like kids doing front flips onto crash mats and jumping on trampolines.

Then it was time for the real challenge. Throughout the day we could see and hear the pros jumping out of a pretend building onto a giant air pillow. These actors were amazing to watch, “but then it was our turn,” Fortem’s Felicity Grice says.

Starting from the 4 metre high platform most of the group took the brave leap, falling backwards into the sweet relief of the cushion below. Then came the 5.7 metre platform and the 7.5 metre platform – enough to make anyone’s toes curl.

“You can imagine the buzz you get after doing something like that,” Felicity says.

“The support and encouragement from the group to get everyone up on those platforms was so great to see. All up it was a great activity to push everyone out of their comfort zones and create connections.”
