Fortem Australia is excited to announce a partnership with Surfing Australia and together will host a series of surfing workshops in the coming months in coastal NSW which are designed to help first responders and their families impacted by the devastating effects of the 2019/20 bushfires.
Fortem Australia’s surf program will promote social connectedness, family cohesion and engagement while focusing on the power of surfing to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Connection with community, family and those who’ve shared similar experiences is an important part of building support networks and improving on mental health and wellbeing and is one of the guiding principles from a recent Beyond Blue study: Answering the Call.
The surfing program will leverage the benefits of surfing including mindfulness to help first responders and their families build resilience while spending time together and building an extended support network.

Fortem Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that works to improve and protect the mental health and wellbeing of Australia’s first responder, law enforcement and national security communities.
Fortem focuses on wellbeing forged through connection with activities designed to strengthen mental and emotional health while assisting to build protective factors for improved mental health and wellbeing
