After watching 17 million hectares of Australia burn in recent bushfires, quickly followed by cyclones, floods, wild storms and COVID-19, Fortem Australia wanted to recognise the work our First Responders do to protect, defend and care for our communities every single day.
Australia’s more than 300,000 First Responders put much of their lives on hold to respond to the community whenever we need them. They leave their home and family behind to protect their community and their neighbours.
We wanted to create a platform that would allow the community to be able to express appreciation easily, and for First Responders and their families to be able to read the messages of appreciation that come their way.
Fortem is encouraging the community to create a social media post to thank first responders and post it on the day using the hashtags #TAFRD, #ThankaFirstResponder, #FirstResponderDay. All public Instagram and Twitter posts using the above hashtags, along with any Facebook posts tagging @FortemAustralia, will show up on the Wall of Thanks at www.thankafirstresponder.com.au as a public guestbook to show our First Responders, and their families, how much we appreciate what they do.
Resources, imagery and social tiles are available for download at the below website.
Thank a First Responder Day wouldn’t be possible without the collaborative efforts of first responder and emergency response organisations around Australia who have come together to make this day possible.
