Rainy weather makes for better surf lesson! | Gold Coast Region Activity Wrap Up

First responder couples came to Currumbin Beach on a rainy but calm morning for Fortem’s surfing lesson wellbeing activity. The rain was very light but it kept the wind at bay so that the surf was still beautiful and perfect for learners. It was an opportunity to meet new people and hang out with friends, learn new skills or develop existing ones, as well as a super fun way to be active.

After getting fitted with a board and rashie, the participants gathered at the waters edge to be taken through the fundamentals of the surf and how to read the waves, as well as some land training.

Amongst the group were some participants who took part in our 4 week surfing program in February. They were keen to enhance their new skills and get the benefits of connecting with other local first responders families.

Everyone managed to stand up during the lesson! It turns out a morning of potentially miserable weather actually provided the most fun!

“I may try surfing again. The whole experience assisted with my current anxiety, so I am likely to do more activities without overthinking.”

Next Gold Coast Surfing Lesson activity is on 28th May. Find more details here. Thank you to Surfing Services Australia for getting us out on the water again!
