Do you know where Killalea State Park is? Our first responder families found out when they recently attended a Walk, Snap, Explore wellbeing activity hosted by Fortem Australia. Exploring this gorgeous natural area situated between Shell Cove and Minnamurra was a great way for the group to embrace the benefits of being active and forming social connections.
It was a chilly day with a brisk wind when the group met at the top of Reflections Killalea Reserve near the kiosk. Beginning their walk along the grass and dirt track around the lagoon, the first responders then hiked along the beach and up the stairs. During the walk, participants were able to use their phones to take some photos of the lagoon and beach.
After the hour long walk, a well earned break was taken at the cafe’ within the park. Everyone welcomed a hot beverage and the group sat at one of the picnic tables, to enjoy a packed bento box of carrot or banana cake, some crackers, cheese and fruit.
Alison, our Fortem team member in Wollongong said, “I love organising and attending these activities, and meeting everyone and learning about what they do and their interests. I especially love and think it’s one of my favourite parts of my job is seeing people connect and getting out and having fun with people they have only just met. In the beginning, it’s always a little awkward, as you are a bit cautious and unsure of what to expect, but as the activity goes on everyone is talking, getting to know one another and finding that common ground. It’s great!”
Our next Walk Snap Explore activity is Tuesday 10th August 2021 starting at 9:30am and should finish around 12noon.
