As Thank a First Responder Day 2025 draws closer, there’s been an incredible wave of interest from schools, childcare centres, and libraries across Australia — with strong engagement from communities wanting to be part of this important national day of recognition.
In response, Fortem Australia has gifted free copies of It’s Just Work Stuff by Stewart Williams to registered schools, childcare centres and libraries. This beautifully illustrated, age-appropriate book helps children of first responders understand the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with care and compassion. The book gently reassures children that it’s not their fault when a parent comes home carrying the emotional weight of their work — and that they are loved, without exception.
Thanks to the overwhelming response, all available copies of the book have now been allocated. Having It’s Just Work Stuff on the shelves of school and centre libraries means more children will feel seen, supported, and understood — a meaningful step in helping first responder families feel less alone and opening the door to honest and compassionate conversations — something many families find difficult to navigate on their own.
We encourage everyone to get involved in Thank a First Responder Day on Wednesday 11 June 2025 — even small gestures can have a big impact. Whether it’s hosting a morning tea for local first responder families, inviting them in for a classroom visit, or simply writing a message of thanks, every act of appreciation counts.
Let’s come together to show our gratitude to the people who serve and protect our communities — and their families who walk alongside them.
