As Thank a First Responder Day 2026 approaches, moments of gratitude are already taking shape across the country. In Sydney, that moment will unfold high above the harbour, as first responders step onto one of Australia’s most iconic landmarks together.
In a powerful show of support, BridgeClimb Sydney has partnered with Fortem Australia to recognise the people who protect our communities every day. At sunrise on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, a team of first responders will climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge, standing shoulder to shoulder as the city wakes beneath them.
‘We’re incredibly grateful for the dedication and bravery of our emergency services. Seeing the city from the top of the Bridge is a powerful reminder of the communities they protect every day, and we’re proud to support Thank a First Responder Day,’ said a spokesperson from BridgeClimb Sydney.
This is not just a climb. It is a moment to pause, reflect, and acknowledge the experiences carried by those on the frontline, and the strength it takes to keep showing up.
‘These moments of appreciation fuel our commitment to protect our community, reinforcing our sense of purpose and the dedication that drives that us through challenging situations. They affirm that our efforts are valued and make a positive impact, a reminder of the importance of our work as First Responders,’ said one former police officer.
While the climb itself is reserved for first responders, its meaning reaches far beyond those taking part. It represents the broader message at the heart of Thank a First Responder Day, that communities see, value and appreciate the work first responders and their families do every day.
‘This climb is about creating space for first responders to come together, step away from the demands of the job, and feel recognised for what they do,’ said Kylie Brown, Fortem Australia’s Community Engagement Coordinator in Sydney.
‘To stand on something as iconic as the Sydney Harbour Bridge at sunrise, surrounded by peers who understand, is incredibly powerful. It’s a reminder that their community sees them, values them, and stands behind them’.
