Fortem Australia, the nation’s leading mental health and wellbeing support organisation for first responders and their families, proudly announces a partnership with NSW Ambulance to deliver a specialised Career Management Program.
Fortem’s Career Management Program has supported over 1,500 first responders since launching in 2021, with 100 percent of participants stating they were more confident in their capacity for work following the program. This partnership marks a significant expansion of Fortem’s Career Management services, extending crucial support to NSW Ambulance personnel alongside other partner agencies across Australia.
First responders frequently encounter traumatic situations, witnessing some of life’s most challenging moments. The chronic exposure to both psychological and physical trauma can often lead to burnout and heightened exhaustion, with studies indicating that approximately 65 percent of first responders experience burnout due to chronic workplace stress. Despite their unwavering dedication to community service, many first responders suffer in silence when it comes to prioritising their own wellbeing and career stress.
Fortem’s Career Management Program is designed to address these critical issues by providing comprehensive career support. Through tailored workshops, seminars, and resources, the program aims to enhance retention within agency, boost performance, and improve overall wellbeing through supported case management.
Uniquely, Fortem’s program addresses both career retention and transition, offering a holistic approach that integrates key elements of wellbeing service delivery. This approach not only enhances individual and team effectiveness but also strengthens the resilience of first responders, ensuring they remain effective in safeguarding our communities.
Danny Staton, Regional Director at Fortem Australia stated: “We are honoured to collaborate with NSW Ambulance to bring our Career Management Program to their dedicated staff.
Our program is specifically designed to address the unique needs of NSW Ambulance personnel as they transition from service. It offers essential services such as interview coaching, resume assistance, and personalised lifestyle planning.
Our aim is to facilitate a dignified transition out of service, ensuring that NSW Ambulance personnel recognise their significant contributions while smoothly transitioning into retirement or new career paths.”
This partnership marks a significant step toward supporting the mental health and resilience of first responders, underscoring Fortem Australia’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives and careers of first responders.
