Fortem welcomes funding extension from the Australian Government

Fortem Australia has welcomed $1.75 million funding from the Australian Government which extends its current funding grant for six months to 31 December 2025.

Provided through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the funding supports Fortem’s work providing critical mental health and wellbeing services for first responders and their families.

This enhances the performance and effectiveness of first responder agencies and helps bolster the nation’s disaster response capability.

Fortem CEO Michael Willing APM welcomed the boost to Fortem’s work supporting the wellbeing of first responders and their families.

“We know that the role of a first responder can be challenging – it can be confronting, traumatic and dangerous – and that can impact the wellbeing of first responders as well as their families,” he said.

“But we also know that early intervention and preventative mental health practices can help boost wellbeing and strengthen resilience.

“This funding will help support Fortem’s work in providing early intervention services to first responders and their families, including those who have been on the frontline of various disasters and other emergency events in recent months and years.”

Fortem is continuing to seek long-term government funding.
