Countdown to Thank a First Responder Day

Thank a First Responder Day is two months away, and Fortem Australia is urging the public to start thinking about how they will thank first responders in their local community.

To be held on Wednesday 11 June 2025, Thank a First Responder Day is a national day of gratitude for more than 370,000 first responders who are always there when we need them the most. It’s also a day that we say thank you to the families of first responders who sacrifice so much so that their loved one can be there for us.

Being a first responder is an incredibly rewarding job that makes a real difference in the lives of many in the community. But it can also be challenging. It can be traumatic, stressful and dangerous, and that can impact the wellbeing of our first responders and their families, too.

We know that feeling appreciated and valued is important for our wellbeing, so Thank a First Responder Day is about saying thank you and letting our first responders know just how grateful we are for all that they do.

More than 200 schools, early learning centres, councils, businesses and individuals have already registered to take part in the day, and we urge you to join them.

How can you get involved?

  • Host an event to thank first responders and their families
  • Invite first responders to your school or workplace
  • Write a thank you card to first responders
  • Post messages of thanks on social media
  • Record a video of thanks to first responders
  • Promote Thank a First Responder Day to your family, friends and colleagues
  • Share stories of kindness and support displayed by first responders
  • Fundraise for Fortem Australia to help us support the mental health and wellbeing of first responders.
