Celebrating National Volunteer Week

Today marks the start of National Volunteer Week, and Fortem would like to say thank you to the many first responder volunteers who support their communities throughout Australia.

We would also like give a special shout out to Fortem’s own volunteers who are instrumental to our work supporting the mental health and wellbeing of first responders and their families.

With a 2025 theme of Connecting Communities, National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering and encourages people to give it a go. Held from 19–25 May 2025, it acknowledges the incredible impact volunteers have in building inclusive and thriving communities.

“Volunteers contribute so much to the community and make a real difference in the lives of many, and they do this in their own time,” Fortem CEO Mick Willing APM said.

“For the many thousands of volunteers who dedicate their time to serving in our emergency services, we are so grateful for all that you do. Fortem is proud to be able to support you and your families.

“We extend that appreciation to Fortem’s own volunteers who give their time to supporting first responders and their families through the delivery of social connection events, career support and being on the ground at the Fortem Wellbeing Hub in Western Australia.”

Volunteering with Fortem Australia is your opportunity to give back to the people we honour for serving and protecting our community.

Volunteering brings many benefits for the person volunteering. It can bring meaning and purpose to your life, while increasing your self-esteem and wellbeing. Volunteering can also relieve stress, while making a positive impact to your community. And it’s a great way to get valuable on-the-job experience.
