Fortem continues to expand its outreach and virtual wellbeing program, increasing the range of social connection activities available to first responders, their families and communities, particularly those living in regional and rural areas.
As part of this expanded virtual offering, Fortem is delivering an online art and mindfulness workshop series in partnership with ARTea Art School. The series uses guided art-making and mindfulness to support mental wellbeing, providing participants with a calm, welcoming and judgement-free space to slow down, connect and focus on self-care.
Delivered entirely online, the workshops remove geographical barriers and ensure people across Australia can access Fortem’s social connection activities, regardless of location. The sessions emphasise that creativity is not about skill or finished outcomes, but about presence, self-expression and care – especially valuable for individuals and families navigating high-stress environments.
The program aligns with the 5 Ways of Wellbeing, encouraging participants to learn new skills, connect with others, give time and care to themselves, engage in gentle creative movement, and simply be present. These elements combine to create a holistic wellbeing experience that supports both immediate and long-term mental health.
The first session of the series saw strong engagement, with participants coming together online to take part in a relaxed watercolour activity led by professional artist and facilitator Dianne Burton from ARTea Art School. Participants were guided step-by-step through the creative process, creating a coastal lighthouse artwork in a supportive and inspiring environment.
ARTea Art School is an experienced provider of art-based wellbeing programs, and facilitator Dianne Burton brings warmth, expertise and a strong understanding of how creativity supports mental health. Her inclusive and engaging approach ensures participants feel comfortable, supported and connected throughout each session.
This series reflects Fortem’s ongoing commitment to delivering accessible, innovative and meaningful social connection activities that support wellbeing, no matter where people live.
This series will continue to run virtually every fortnight on a Tuesday throughout the year, offering regular moments to pause, connect and create together. Sessions are already listed on Fortem’s wellbeing activities calendar, and we encourage first responders, families and community members to explore what’s coming up and register for an activity that feels right for them.
