This year, the Adelaide Hills is showing what real community support looks like.
Fortem Australia was proud to be awarded a Community Development Grant from Adelaide Hills Council, enabling even greater local participation in Thank a First Responder Day 2026.
Through this grant, Council has stepped up in a practical and meaningful way, ensuring local schools and early learning centres have everything they need to take part. This includes printed thank you cards for students to personalise and share with local first responders, along with ready to use activity ideas and classroom resources to help educators bring the day to life.
These packs will be mailed directly to participating schools and centres, removing barriers and making it simple for children, educators and families to get involved.
Local Fortem Community Engagement Coordinator, Jodie, is excited to see the celebration grow across the Adelaide Hills this year. She shared that it is always powerful to watch children proudly deliver their thank you cards and learn more about the people who serve their community. With Council’s support, she is looking forward to even more schools and centres getting involved in 2026.

Last year, Woodside Preschool brought the celebration to life by welcoming local first responders into their kindy. The children created handmade thank you cards and even decorated special biscuits to present to their visitors, proudly sharing their gratitude in a way that was both meaningful and memorable. It was a powerful example of how early learning communities across the Adelaide Hills are embracing the day and building genuine connections with local first responders.
On 10 June 2026, the Adelaide Hills will not just participate. It will lead with gratitude.
