There are moments in life that change everything in an instant, and often it is a first responder who must stand beside people in those moments with compassion and care.
Today is Day 6 of Fortem’s 10 Days of Gratitude – a day to say thank you to the first responders who must deliver the worst news.
The 10 Days of Gratitude is a celebration of all that first responders do to support our communities ahead of Thank a First Responder Day on Wednesday 10 June.
Thank a First Responder Day creates a strong national voice of appreciation for the frontline workers and volunteers who give so much to keep Australians safe. The initiative was created by Fortem Australia, the nation’s leading independent not-for-profit organisation supporting the mental health and wellbeing of first responders and their families.
Some parts of the job are visible to the public, but others happen quietly behind closed doors. First responders are often the people tasked with telling families their loved one has been seriously injured, is missing, or has died.
These conversations require extraordinary empathy, professionalism and humanity. They stay with the families receiving the news, but they also stay with the responders who deliver it.
In moments of unimaginable grief and heartbreak, first responders continue showing up with compassion, professionalism and humanity. Today, Australians are encouraged to turn gratitude into action by thanking the first responders who support families through some of life’s most difficult moments.
