We’re excited to welcome Tate Harris to the Fortem team as our new Career Management Specialist. Bringing more than a decade of experience supporting people through career transitions, Tate is passionate about helping individuals discover meaningful opportunities, build confidence and navigate their next chapter with purpose.
Working one-on-one with first responders, Tate supports clients with everything from career coaching and identifying future opportunities, through to resumes, job applications, study pathways and having existing skills and experience formally recognised as qualifications.
‘I largely work with our first responders one-on-one, helping them with all things related to their career,’ Tate says.
‘That could include career coaching around their career or what type of role they would like to transition into, finding work or study pathways into their ideal new career, getting their amazing knowledge and experience whilst in service recognised as a formal qualification, creating resumes and job applications to give them the best chance of success in landing a new role, or anything in between.’
While Tate has only been with Fortem for a short time, his career journey has consistently centred around supporting others.
Starting out as a receptionist with a community services organisation at just 18 years old, Tate found himself moving through a range of programs including employment services, apprenticeships and work placements before eventually specialising in career counselling.
‘It just so happened to align with what ended up being a strong value for helping people,’ he says.
‘Ten years ago I decided to focus solely on supporting clients with career transitions as a career counsellor, and that eventually led me here.’

Outside of work, music plays a huge role in Tate’s wellbeing and creativity.
‘Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed, my mind and body gravitate towards a chair strumming my guitar, sitting at the piano, playing the drums, or if the stars align, getting our group of dads together to jam,’ he says.
He also enjoys exploring nature with his children, discovering new places and finding creative ways to problem solve through technology.
Travel is another passion, with Scandinavia sitting high on Tate’s list of future destinations.
‘For some reason I’m really drawn to that whole region, and the more foreign I can get from my own experience the better,’ he says.
One of the people who has had the greatest impact on Tate’s life is his wife, who he says has helped shape both his mindset and approach to life.
‘My wife for sure, she’s got an innate belief in the power of manifesting what you want, and the work ethic to make it happen. This has allowed us to create a life that suits us, and the flexibility to pivot when needed.’
When reflecting on the advice he would give his 15-year-old self, Tate laughs that he would start with one important financial lesson: ‘Learn about compound interest now!’
Thanks for sharing, Tate – it’s wonderful to have you on the Fortem team.
