The impact of mentors on participants in Fortem’s Career Management Program has been so positive, that many graduates are now asking to become mentors themselves.
Introduced earlier this year following a successful pilot, the mentor initiative sees program participants paired with a former first responder who has themselves participated in the program to offer advice and support.
This shared experience helps to normalise any concerns they may have about career transition while also demonstrating their value as a first responder and the value of the program in taking the next steps in their career journey.
One recent participant who was approaching aged retirement was paired with a mentor who had himself gone through the program in similar circumstances.
The mentor was able to share his experiences of seeking part-time work post service and was even able to link him with a possible employer that led to a job offer. To find out more about Fortem’s Career Management Program, visit Career management – Fortem Australia
