Understanding Fight, Flight, Freeze

As we experience stressful or traumatic situations, we experience a stress response which can trigger a variety of physical, emotional, and mental responses, which could trigger a flight, fight or freeze response.

As we experience stressful or traumatic situations, we naturally experience a stress response which can trigger a variety of automatic physical, emotional, and mental responses.

These responses involve our system activating (through a flooding of stress hormones in the body) and moving into a flight, fight or freeze response.

Fight or flight has come to be known more recently as the “mobilisation zone” because it is our body’s way of mobilising us to face challenges. Freeze is also known as the “immobilisation zone” and this is the body’s way of responding to overwhelming stress or conserving energy when fight or flight are not an option.
