At Fortem, there is one day each year that stands above all others.
Thank a First Responder Day is, without question, our favourite day of the year.
On Wednesday, 10 June 2026, communities across Australia will once again come together to pause, reflect, and say two powerful words to the people who protect us
every day: thank you.
Thank a First Responder Day is a national day of appreciation created by Fortem Australia to recognise the extraordinary service of police, fire, ambulance, SES, marine rescue,
and other emergency service personnel, along with the families who support them behind the scenes.
Why this day matters
First responders routinely face trauma, high stress, and operational pressure in the service of others. While much of their work happens quietly and without recognition, the impact is felt in every community across the country.
Thank a First Responder Day exists to remind first responders that their efforts are seen, valued, and deeply appreciated. Research consistently shows that feeling recognised and connected has a meaningful impact on wellbeing, resilience, and mental fitness. Sometimes, a simple gesture can go a long way.

How Australia gets involved
Each year, thousands of schools, early learning centres, workplaces, community groups, and individuals take part by:
- Creating cards, artwork, and messages of gratitude
- Hosting morning teas or community events
- Sharing thank you messages online
- Visiting or acknowledging local emergency services
- Taking a moment in classrooms or workplaces to talk about gratitude and service
Participation is intentionally simple and inclusive. Whether it takes five minutes or a full day of activities, every thank you counts.

Looking ahead to 2026
After the incredible response to Thank a First Responder Day in recent years, we are excited to see the movement continue to grow in 2026. Registrations will be opening shortly, with free resources available to help schools and communities take part.
Throughout June, Fortem will also be showing our full appreciation by delivering Thank a First Responder Day events and activities across Australia, creating opportunities for communities to connect directly with first responders.
For now, we encourage everyone to save the date and start thinking about how you, your school, or your organisation might get involved.
Because gratitude matters.
Because connection matters.
And because our first responders deserve to know that Australia stands behind them.
Wednesday, 10 June 2026.
We cannot wait to say thank you together.
