Optus shows what Thank a First Responder Day can be

Last year, Optus marked Thank a First Responder Day with a large on‑site activation that brought together Optus employees, first responders and their families to recognise the vital role first responders play in communities across Australia.

The Optus campus welcomed national and volunteer first responders from the Rural Fire Service, Surf Life Saving Australia, Disaster Relief Australia and Fire and Rescue NSW. Around 500 people attended across the day, creating opportunities for connection, conversation, and a visible show of appreciation.

With frontline agencies engaging directly with employees, the event fostered a strong sense of shared pride and gratitude. Optus employees also raised $800 in support of first responders, extending the impact beyond the day itself.

Dave Morrisey, Co-Chair United Employee Network, Optus said, ‘Thank a First Responder Day was an opportunity for our people to come together with first responders and their families, to recognise the important role they play in keeping communities safe. It was a meaningful day that reflected Optus’ commitment to connection, community, inclusion and supporting those who serve.’

With 2026 set to mark Optus’ third year participating in Thank a First Responder Day, the company continues to support initiatives that strengthen community connection and recognise the contribution of first responders.

Registrations for Thank a First Responder Day 2026 are now open.

Thank a First Responder Day is Fortem Australia’s major annual fundraiser, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of first responders, their families and former first responders across Australia.
