Lesa Ashford arrives in Perth!

Today marks the 51st day of Lesa Ashford’s journey circumnavigating Australia. Battling heat waves, raging storms, and even a cyclone, Lesa has met Australia’s unpredictable weather with grit and a smile, and has now cycled over an astounding 7,000km.

When asked about her decision to take the world record-breaking ride around Australia, Lesa said, “My girlfriends were reading a book about a woman who cycled around the world, and they all said ‘you should do that’ and I laughed it off at the time, but it got me thinking, it’s something I would love to do around Australia.”

While on her journey Lesa has helped to raise funds and awareness for first responder mental fitness and wellbeing. “Choosing Fortem was almost an instant decision. There was a night where one of my friends, who is a first responder, was talking with me into the wee hours of the morning about a pretty horrific incident he had attended. Two of my closest friends, that I consider my brothers, had just lost their cousin Matthew Field and his wife Katy, which was the [same] event my friend had attended.”

Lesa herself had also been involved in a head-on collision with a truck earlier in her life and remembered the first responders who helped her keep calm following the accident.

“When the paramedics arrived, I knew I was in good hands.”

Lesa is set to ride over 14,000 km on her 50-60 day circumnavigation. To find out more about her journey, visit: https://www.gofundme.com/f/NewHorizons4Lesahttps://www.facebook.com/NewHorizons4Lesa
