Fortem Board Announces Appointment of Michael Willing APM as New CEO

The Board of Fortem Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Willing APM as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective 30 September 2024. This new leadership marks a significant milestone for Fortem, as we advance our mission to support the mental health and wellbeing of first responders and their families – the people who protect and care for our communities.

Michael joins Fortem with an outstanding track record, having served as Managing Director and Client Account Lead for National Security and Safety at Accenture Australia, and as Deputy Commissioner of the New South Wales Police Force. Michael also currently serves as Chair of the Fortem Advisory Board, an unparalleled consultative body comprising experienced and skilled leaders from the first responder sector.

During his distinguished 31-year career with the NSW Police Force, Michael led several key commands, including the Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Command, and served as the State Recovery Coordinator for NSW following the 2019/2020 bushfire disaster. His extensive experience in managing complex operations, coupled with his deep commitment to the wellbeing of first responders, positions him as the ideal leader to guide Fortem Australia into its next phase of growth.

Michael’s career has been shaped by his dedication to public service and his passion for helping first responders navigate the unique challenges they face. His personal journey from senior law enforcement to the private sector has further strengthened his commitment to supporting first responders as they transition to meaningful lives and careers beyond public service.

Michael’s appointment follows the leadership of John Bale, Fortem’s inaugural Managing Director and Co-Founder, who has been a driving force behind the organisation’s rapid growth over the past five years. John will continue to play a key role on the Board, providing guidance and strategic direction.
