Peak Fortem:
mental fitness

Peak Fortem has been produced in partnership between Peak State and Fortem to equip Australian first responders with information and practical tools to promote mental fitness, increase performance and improve wellbeing.

Peak Fortem is an integral part of Fortem’s mental health literacy offering and was funded in-part by Federal Government grants. These grants have further enabled Fortem Australia to develop a support package that includes a resource libraryclinical support and wellbeing programs for Emergency Service workers and families.

The Peak Fortem resources are built upon a solid foundation of Psychology and Sports Science utilising evidence based models to develop its tools.

What is Mental Fitness?

You are fit when you can strive for and achieve success in all manner of activities.

You are physically fit when you are strong, powerful, fast, flexible and demonstrate endurance.

You are mentally fit when you are focused, creative, resilient and demonstrate control and balance.

In the same way that a weight lifter is strong but less flexible or a marathon runner has endurance but perhaps less power…the different elements of mental fitness exist on sliding scales.

We celebrate difference and recognise the richness it brings and therefore do not encourage you to strive towards one true ideal…rather we motivate you to find the best version of you…to find your own Peak State.

Who is Peak State?

Peak State is helping to build a global community that understands the importance of mental fitness and feels empowered to attain it.

Peak State is a social enterprise that believes the resources to reach mental fitness should be available to everyone, not just those who can afford it. As such, the resources produced in partnership with Fortem will be available to all first responders in Australia.

Using their joint experiences of adversity and subsequent post-traumatic growth whilst combining their sporting backgrounds, military ethos and passion for driving systemic change to help others, Nathan Jones and David Wiseman have developed Peak State to share what they have learned in the building and maintaining of mental fitness.

Peak State has been forged in the crucible of this shared life of sport, service and recovery – David and Nathan have learned the benefits of exercising the mind as well as the body and firmly believe this process should not be used purely by athletes or those recovering from extreme life events but instead, be available and understood by all, in order that everyone can reach their Peak State.
