Moral injury webinar | Virtual

August 24 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm AEST

Free

Fortem Australia invites first responders, clinicians, and support staff to attend an online webinar on Moral Injury.

Moral injury refers to the psychological distress that arises from experiences that challenge or violate deeply held moral values, such as exposure to human suffering, perceived failures to act, or experiences of betrayal within systems or leadership. While often overlapping with trauma responses, moral injury is distinct in its association with guilt, shame, anger, and loss of trust.

This webinar will explore what moral injury is, how it presents in first responder populations, and how it differs from PTSD and other trauma-related conditions. Participants will gain insight into the emotional, cognitive, and behavioural impacts of moral injury, as well as practical strategies to support individuals experiencing moral distress.

Content will include:

  • Definitions and models of moral injury
  • Common causes in operational and organisational contexts
  • Signs and symptoms (including differences from PTSD)
  • The role of meaning-making, values, and moral emotions
  • Practical approaches to support, including communication strategies and the RAIN framework

This session is relevant for both clinicians and first responders, with a focus on practical, trauma-informed responses that can be applied in real-world settings.

Participants are encouraged to engage at their own pace, as the material may prompt reflection on challenging experiences.

Please register your interest in attending this activity by clicking on the Registration Form button below.

The session is delivered by Marnie Donovan, Fortem’s Lead Clinician.
